The Importance of Business Process Documentation

I am obsessed with documentation, structure, design, and systems. Before, I had been stressed out each time things are not aligned with my schedule, my routine, and/or my system, whether it is personal or business.

Some people call it OCD which is my trait since I was a child. I hated it at first. But eventually, I learned to accept it because I realized it is one of the strengths in running an organization and in running a consulting firm that does business process engineering and systems implementation.

So the first step in business process management is business process documentation.

It is the process of documenting an organization’s existing business process that involves drafting a flowchart of running business operations from start to end.

It shows a high to mid-level process to visualize the current workflow, identify gaps and then re-engineer if or when necessary.

Here are the importance & benefits of documenting your business process

•Improve controls and efficiency

•Blueprint towards business process automation

•Reference for future use – staff turnover and/or ISO certifications, patents, or the likes.

Now, to help you get started, I am giving away a free high-level business process for common industries, a gap analysis template, and a computerized business process flowchart template.
